Starting an online business

You are listening to the Success Club Podcast. Hello and welcome to session 171. This week I am talking to you about how to start an online business

Hello and welcome to the Success Club Podcast, my name is Kaz Johnson and I am your host today, this is episode 171, and today I am talking about starting an online business.

Here is a proven sequence of steps you can follow to guarantee your success when you’re starting a small business online, and here are those steps…

1. Find a need and fill it.

So many people make the fatal mistake of creating a product or service first, then they take it to market and wonder why their business fails. So the best way to find a need and to fill it is to find a problem and then to create a solution for it. But you must be passionate about this subject. Think about what you are good at and what you could talk to someone for hours about. Although you need to find a need first.

You can do this by finding out what people are asking about in forums and communities that you belong to, what questions are they asking?

You could also visit your competition to see what they are offering and whether you could do the same, better still, could you do it better?

Once you have found something you could offer and that you are passionate about… you have found your topic!

2. Write copy that sells.

Once you have found your topic, it’s time to write some copy that sells! This could take some time, and don’t forget that you need to find your customer’s pain point and then write the solution that you have, on it.

You need to have a really good compelling headline, and don’t be afraid to test it all the time!
When you are writing your copy, remember AIDA, which stands for Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action model, it is the purchasing funnel that all customers need to go through so that you can get the sale.

3. Design and build an easy-to-use website.

Now you have your copy, it’s time to think about an easy to use website.

Now you can either out-source this, or you can do it yourself very easily with websites like Squarespace, Wix or WordPress. I recommend and use WordPress and you can easily install it yourself with the one-click that Bluehost has. They currently have a great offer on at the moment, and the uptime and support desk is amazing and if you are a Lite Member of the Success Club, I take you by the hand and show you how to do it!

Remember to make it easy to buy with just one or at the most two clicks and don’t forget to add that all import opt-in offer and landing pages that will collect those all-important email addresses so that you can start building that customer relations ship with your customers so that you can develop that know like and trust factor!

4. Use search engines to drive traffic to your site.

Now it’s time to drive that all-important traffic to your site with social media and SEO and content too!

You can do with paid adverts if you have more money than time, or you can do it yourself with content marketing, and that you have more time than money or you could do a bit of both.

For pay per click advertising, I would recommend Facebook advertising and retargeting, as you can really narrow your niche down and target your ideal customer.

5. Establish an expert reputation for yourself.

Now is the time to get yourself known for things you are good at. You can do this by blogging, for yourself and for others as a guest content blogger, or you could add a YouTube Channel and start adding content there.

How about adding a podcast to your channel? This too is a great way of adding content out there and the great thing about podcasts is that people can listen to them anywhere, for example, listening to them in their cars, on a walk, in the gym!

And finally, don’t forget social media and forums too!

6. Follow up with your customers and subscribers with email.

Make sure when setting up your email opt-in you are sending out regular content to them, either as a newsletter or automatically sending information out on a regular basis in an autoresponder.

7. Increase your income through back-end sales and upselling.

This is a great one, and one to do manually at first and then when you have found some to sell, add it to your shopping cart as an upsell, or you could start adding courses, books, ebooks, products like planners and diaries, signature courses, workshops – really, the list is endless.

That’s it for this week, tell me in the comments if you are thinking of starting an online business, what do you need help with, please just let me know.
