Hello and welcome to the Success Club Podcast, my name is Kaz Johnson and I am your host today, this is episode 178 and Today I am talking to you about the steps you need to create an email list.
The best thing you can do for your business, is to create and maintain an email list, yes you can set up a business on social media like Facebook, but you don’t own it, so you need to set up your own list, that you own!
So, here are the steps you need to take to create and maintain your email list in a way that you will not get overwhelmed by the steps you need to take.
Choose your email marketing provider
I use Getresponse after using a few but found that Getresponse, suited all my needs, but there are others like Mailchimp, Convertkit, etc. Go and sign up for a few, many of them are free, and try them out to see what suits your needs.
Create an opt-in form for your website
Once you have set up an account with your chosen email provider, now is the time to look at setting up your opt-form. In Getresponse, they have loads to use, I tend to use these, or Thrivethemes, or Convertbox, depending what I have to offer and where I need the form. You need at least three, one at the top of your website, one in the sidebar, and one at the end of your post or page.
Write your first newsletter
A newsletter is a great way to send out weekly updates and different communications, and I send one out weekly on a Monday, often telling people that I have just published a post or other related news
Set up an autoreponder serices.
In Getresponse, I have different lists depending on what the reader has signed up for. I write out all my series in Word first, with what day they are going out with. This Autoresponder series with a tip, a tip, a tip and then another tip followed with a sales offer and enough emails to cover what I need for this particular topic, as well as sending out a weekly newsletter as well. In Getresponse you can see who has opened the email, what they have clicked on.
Create a welcome message
In the autoresponder series, I make sure that I send out a welcome message that sets out who I am and what to expect from me, and how they can contact me if need be.
Design your leadmagnet
I use Designrr to create my leadmagnets if they are a PDF or if I am using a course, I use Learndash and finally, I also use EasyWebinar, if I sending them to a webinar. So these are the three main areas that I use for my leadmagnet.
Create a landing page
Your landing page needs for people to just one thing, and that gets people to signup for your freebie, nothing else, no menus, no links – nothing else but for them to sign up or leave…
Drive traffic to your freebie
Now you have all your ducks in a row, you need to get traffic to your freebie. Here are some ideas on how you can do this:-
- Paid adverts
- Social media, including Youtube!
- In your blog posts on your blog
- In forums you have joined
- In guest posts
Create a content plan
Failing to plan, is planning to fail! I write out my content plan in 90 days and tie in any offers, tips, blog posts, recordings and Youtube. This way you know what to write about and can get as much content written as possible up to 90 days, as things come up, we get sick and take holidays, this way, you have something published out on a consistent basis! After all, consistency is the key here!
Test, test, test
We have to plan, action, and evaluated everything we do, and that includes your emails! Try changing the heading, the wording, etc. What was popular? What was not so popular, and what would you different in the future?
Yes, it takes time and effort in setting up your email funnel, but once it is set up, it is easy to maintain. Just remember to try and get 90 days worth of content ahead of you, and I promise you will be able to start connecting and then selling to your ideal target audience
