You are listening to the Success Club Podcast. Hello and welcome to session 128 This week I am talking to you about Is coaching for you.
Hello and welcome to the Success Club Podcast, my name is Kaz Johnson and I am your host today, this is episode 128 and today I am talking about Is coaching for you.
The presence of online coaching is growing quickly with more and more coaches taking to online services to grow their business’ and reach a wider audience.
For people who wish to deliver a coaching program online, it is a great way to scale your business as you can reach more people and help people who perhaps could not afford a 1-1 service.
But is coaching for you?
I started my coaching program after I was delivering online training courses and qualifications online and people started to ask me if I could teach them to do the same.
There was the clue, people were asking me for it, so I knew it was a viable option. As a teacher for nearly 40 years, I still wanted to help people and after a bout of pneumonia, I knew I was ready to move on to the next stage, and so The Success Club was born.
I knew I always wanted to help people to grow and loved learning, and it was my teacher who pointed out to me that I should try teaching as a profession, And wham! I just knew that was the vocation for me.
But what about you, is coaching for you?
Online coaching is aimed at anyone, it may well be suited more towards those that are a bit more experienced and need that extra support to get the results they want, but with the ease of obtaining and sharing information, exercise videos and instructional videos can be shared seamlessly. Making online coaching applicable to anyone of any type of background.
It allows you to work flexible hours working online and there are some things you need consider:-
What sort of qualities do I need as a coach?
Are you passionate about helping others?
If you answered yes to this question, then yes, you have the main qualities to become a coach
What qualifications do I need?
This depends, are you coaching for a qualification? Then yes, you will need a teaching qualification, perhaps an assessing qualification and a level higher than you subject you are going to coach. If not, then you really need to have the background of how to coach, perhaps by taking a course, this could be online or in the classroom. But you definitely need to be proficient in the area in which you are going to teach.
Where do I train?
You can deliver your coaching online, or in the classroom
You need to have a passion for personal development!
This is a must! For lifelong learning, you need to continuously grow yourself as well as helping other people to grow as well. This could be by taking extra courses or just reading books in your subject area.
As a coach you need to be non-judgemental, you may have your own personal beliefs, but you need to think of your client, so your own options need to be put to one side in order for your client to grow in the area that he or she decides.
Can you lead by example?
Are you doing what you are advising your clients to do?
If not, you need to consider if being a coach is your true profession.
What coaching skills do you already have?
If you don’t have any, you really need to think about your communication skills, for example, you need to build a rapport with your learner, as well as questioning and listening skills, so that you can take your client from where they are now, to where they want to be.
What types of coach do you want to be?
There are many types of coach that you could be, from being an online business mentor like myself, or you could be a workplace coach, for example, in the UK we have apprentices, and they require coaches to help them prepare the apprentices to enter their end point assessment. Here the coaches, sometimes called trainer/assessors, carry out classroom and on-job learning coaching and generally prepare them for their gateway to the end point assessment. This could be many types of discipline, for example, business administration or customer service or team leading or management.
You could become a life coach. This is a role where you help unhappy people make changes in their life, from things like losing weight, making a career change or perhaps changing their relationship.
There are so many types of coach you could be, and a specialist coach covers many bases, for example, Weight loss or health, Relationships, Entrepreneurs, Women, Teenagers, Parents, Spirituality, Business or Sports. Whichever type of subject you choose, just make sure you have a burning passion for it, if you don’t your clients will feel it, and will lose faith in you and will be your burning passion that will keep you going through the tough times, yes there will be tough times. I have been a teacher for many decades, and have changed my way of teaching as well as my subject, but it has always been my burning passion to help people to succeed from where they are, to where they want to be, has helped me going.
My role now a teacher is to help people to plan, build and grow their business online successfully. For over a decade I helped people to become trainers and assessors, and as a business mentor that I am now, I am working on a coaching program that will help other people to become coaches and to set up their own coaching practice, but that’s currently under wraps, with more to come in the following months.
