Growing your business with a blog

I started my blog a couple of years ago now, and I must say it has been the number one way of getting traffic to my website as well as getting new customers and retaining current ones.
A lot of people get put off starting a blog thinking that it’s really difficult to set up, but these days, it’s super easy and you can be up and running in just 20 minutes, honestly!
When you start to blog you need to make sure that you are constant, for example, I publish a blog every Monday, come rain or shine (with the exception of having pneumonia where I had to play catch up for a while), and by planning out what you are going to blog about in advance helps you to overcome that writer’s block you hear about.
Yes, it is true, I have had times when I have started a post and could not get any further, does this still happen now? Yes it does, and it’s often when I have planned a blog post and then started writing it out, but it just did not flow, so I end up looking at the next post I am to write out, or look at what I am currently doing (I have found that if I do a monthly ‘theme’, this all ties into one area for me, and so makes it easy to write content for my blog as well as training videos and classes for my membership program.
I do mine on a Monday, but I would have been writing it out for a week, sometimes I edit it on a Friday, ready for the following week.
It does take time to create content, and sometimes even longer to complete it by adding keywords, pictures, links and resources to it too, but this all adds up in helping you to grow your business. Its part of my marketing strategy that I know will give me heaps of returns, not necessarily now, but later on down the line, and if you create evergreen content, this is content that never gets old, it will still help you to grow your business for years to come.
Not only do you attract new customers, but it helps identify as you are the ‘go-to’ person in your industry and I have talked about this in episode 46.
Not only can you grow your business by keeping on showing up that will give your customers that ‘know, ‘like’ and ‘trust’ factor, but you can also start your email list by offering freebies on there, this is called a call to action with a lead magnet, but you can also earn money from your blog by putting in what we call ‘affiliate’ links. This could be a product review, or something that you use and would recommend.
Another way to earn money by using affiliates is to use Adsense. Now I am not saying to put those annoying ads all over your website, but to use some here and there, and don’t forget, they must be relevant to the reader and something you do use and would recommend.
Blogs are also a great way to show you who you really are. Remember I said about the ‘know, ‘like’ and ‘trust’ factor? Well make sure you have put an ‘about me’ page with a picture of you on it too. I have noticed that my ‘about me’ page is one of the most visited pages. Putting your picture up and writing your profile, people get to feel like they know you as a trusted friend and when they do that, they are 10 times more likely to buy from you.
So if you have not already got a blog, I have a great little blog challenge for you that takes you from the planning, building and launching your blog, from choosing a name, (there is a domain name checker on there for you) to installing WordPress, adding themes and posts, to launching it…
