Hello and welcome to the Success Club Podcast, my name is Kaz Johnson and I am your host today, this is episode 143 and today I am talking about the importance of rest.

As I am thinking about heading off to the country for some much rest, relaxation and a review, I do this every quarter, by the way, I wanted to talk to you about the importance of rest.

I am not just talking about the sleep that you get, although that is important, read the book Rest, by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang I am specifically talking about focus, and what I mean about that, it is intentional, it is planned and put on your calendar, I do this at the end of the year, and it is a no-fail must do!

Along with this, I spend my time off of the ‘net’ just letting my mind wander where it pleases, although I still do my morning routine, but not necessarily my evening routine, a nighttime routine for my breaks.

During this rest time, I also look back on where my business went for the last 3 months, especially as when I am writing this, lockdown is easing here in the UK, but also at what went well, what did not go so well, and what I would do differently next time.

It is really important to me that I get away, I turn off all my devices too for the most part of it just enjoying nature.
This gives me plenty of time to get energised so that when I do my review, I am clear-headed and fully immersed in my review. This is a time where I look back over the last three months and plan to do more of what went well, what did not go so well and what I could do better next time.

Going back to the book of Rest -, James Walkman states that to ‘Take a break and rest: you’ll make smarter decisions, have better relationships, and be happier and more creative”’ I found this to be so true, I can find that even when I am not on holiday, I try to nap every day after lunch as this rest is more of a power nap, far from being lazy, I know all too well how important this is to be one habit that makes me more, not less productive.

By resting more, you get a better balance in life and become more productive because of it, not less. I also do a daily meditation in the morning, listening to my calm app in the morning, with my evening bedtime story in the evening. Sometimes I do not work in the afternoon, but take this time off to follow one of my hobbies, this again is a form of rest for me, rest comes in many forms, it’s a break away from the business of work.

So, now I want you to take a moment away from work and just be…. Just rest, even if it is only for 10 mins, walk away from your computer, rest your eyes by looking at something far away, perhaps take a drink of water, but whatever you do, just rest… I can promise you will come back to your work much more productive.
