Steps to Starting a Small Business Online

You are listening to the Success Club Podcast. Hello and welcome to session 164. This week I am talking to you about Steps to Starting a Small Business Online

Hello and welcome to the Success Club Podcast, my name is Kaz Johnson and I am your host today, this is episode 164 and today I am talking Steps to Starting a Small Business Online

I see a lot of lights and Christmas decorations up as I go for my run, yes I said run. I changed my walking to running. I needed a change but still wanted to get outside and do some exercise.

After some soul searching and taking a leaf from both my daughters who are runners, I decided to start running, and I must say it’s been good so far!

Here are the steps that you need to do to get started…

1. Find a need and fill it.

It seems that most people just start a business first and then find customers for it. However, you need to find a need first and then fill it.

That’s ok, with the internet, market research has made this task really easy for you. Just hope on to it and do keyword research to find out what people are looking for. Then check out your competition to see what they are doing, how they are doing it, and how you can compete with them by doing it better.

2. Write copy that sells.

You need to write copy that sells to your customers, there is a formula for this in sales and it is called A.D.I.A. It stand for Attraction, Desire, Interest, and Attention. But remember to sell the sizzle and not the sausage, what is the benefit, what is in it for them.

3. Design and build an easy-to-use website.

The next stage is to build an easy-to-use website that is easy to use and simple. Don’t forget a call to action (CTA) with a lead magnet that you can collect email addresses and start a relationship with your customers.

Make the navigation easy to use and make it customer-friendly, as this is your storefront, and only use video and audio if it enhances your website for the customer’s benefit.

4. Use search engines to drive traffic to your site.

There are many ways to get into the search engines, but by far best is adding regular content to it by posting on a regular basis, I would recommend posting once a week at a certain time and on a certain date, and then stick to that.

You can also use PPC advertising, this is ideal for you if you have more money than time, and it allows you to find out what different keywords rank best for you.

5. Establish an expert reputation for yourself.

People are going to be looking to you as an expert if you write good regular content that can help your customer. Give away free things that can help them as well as articles, challenges, answer people in forums with a link to your site, show people how you are the person to solve their problems. Above all engage with them, this relationship is a two-way thing and people buy from people they know like, and trust.

6. Follow up with your customers and subscribers with email.

Remember that you put a CTA on your website? Now you need to engage with your customers by sending out a regular email to them. This can be done as an autoresponder service, with perhaps a regular newsletter sent out at a certain time and day. I send mine out on a Tuesday and always backlink it to the post that I sent out on the day before.

Anyone who visits your site is a hot lead, and there is no better way to start engaging with them by sending them an email. And email is a great way to see how engaged they are with you.
