This week I am talking to you about finding and defining your niche

It took me some time to finally narrow down to find and define my niche.

I had been teaching for over 34 years and started life as an IT trainer and for the last 10 years I have been teaching teachers how to teach and assessors how to assess.  Needing always to shake things up a bit, I started to teach people how to create online courses, my passion is teaching, I also still have a passion for teaching people about how to use technology and I realised that there is more to teaching online courses, so moved over to helping people to create and sell e-learning products.

So, if you want to find and define your niche, here is what you need to do.

1 – what is your passion?

Mine is teaching people to teach, create e-learning products and to market and sell them

2 – what are people problems in these areas?

I found that people who were not qualified teachers, did not know how to create a course, that they did not know about the software to use, or how to sell them either.   As I had years of experience, and burnt the midnight oil to fine tune my online courses, I had already ironed out any kinks and can share my experience and expertise to others.

3 – what is the competition doing?  I looked around to find out what my competition was doing, a lot of people where teaching how to create an online course, but they did not do the whole package, ie, create, build and sell online courses, books, videos, etc.

And that’s it!

So, I help people to create and sell e-learning products…

Like me it took me a while and you might need to change it up a bit as you go along. So, grab a pen and paper and start doing some action.

Write down the headings and the answers to the following:-

1 – what is your passion?

2 – what are people problems?

3 – what is the competition doing?

There you have it, now you can create your strapline like I did…

I help people to xxx and xxx…

You need to explain the change they will get once they have taken your course, or read your book etc.
