It’s all in the planning, because ‘failing to plan is planning to fail’ …BENJAMIN FRANKLIN.
One hour spent on planning saves 10 hours of doing, however, we often fail to plain we are at our busiest, and yet, just one hour of planning when we least feel like it, saves us from feeling overwhelmed.

Hello and welcome to episode 013 Of the Kaz Johnson show, I am your host Kaz Johnson, and this is the place to be if you are planning, building or growing your online business.
Today I am talking about…Planning.
Failing to plan is planning to fail – Benjamin Franklin
As a teacher I learnt that an hour of planning saves 10 hours doing. When running my businesses, this also stood me in good stead.
On the last episode, we looked at reviewing and looking back to move forward.
Planning a year out ahead seems like a huge challenge, however, I tend to plan my year out on a yearly planner, first I get my holidays onto the planner, I tend to put these in each ¼ along side my review days.
Then I look at what projects I want to plan out, for example, one big project, like a membership site or big course, followed with two smaller projects, for example smaller courses.
I map out my promotions next, so I try to put in a new promotion in for each month, for example a challenge, contest, or a trial for a course.
This is my main focus for the year ahead and I make sure that I focus on the ‘One Thing’ as explained by the book of the same name by Gary Keller, he states
‘What’s the ONE Thing you can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?
It’s one book that I read over and over, especially when I start the bright shiny syndrome and go off track… I have put the link to this book in the links on my podcast page, kazjohnson.com/session13.
Using Gary’s method, I realise that I need to focus on my health first, as without good health, I get sick and I am unable to work, which in turn affects my business and finances, and be able look after my family, it’s a great book it really is!
The great thing here is once you focus on the one thing, and learn to say no, you free up time and energy to focus on what you really need to in order to get to where you want to be.
I use a paper day to day diary, and look at each month in turn and add the things I need to do for the month ahead.
Working as a teacher, I like the way we had session plans, so I like having a ‘time table’ of the things I do each week and batch my work accordingly so that I never had to think about what I am supposed to be doing and end up going down rabbit holes on social media and then thinking ‘wow – where did that afternoon go.
This year, after getting a bad bout of flu, I want to batch up and get ahead so I don’t feel to stressed if I am unable to get things done.
So, I now have started batching my recordings on one day and hope to not only catch up, but to get ahead.
I also get up incredibly early as I found I am really productive and creative in the first part of the day, and in the afternoons, I tend to non thinking type work. By the evening, I am totally done in, so I do not try to do any work in the evening!
So, have you got a system for planning? Or do you just get up and do what you feel you need to do and concentrate on putting out fires? You might think that you don’t have the time to plan, but think about it, do you have the time not to?
