This week I am talking to you about The 5 tools you need to create online courses

There are only a handful of tools that you basically need to start creating your online courses and they are:-

1) A Website

Somewhere to host your courses…I use WordPress for all my sites and it’s great building your own e-learning business on too.  Google loves, it and it’s free and very easy to use too.  Plus you can purchase plugins like Learndash, and learning management plugin, which brings me neatly on to…

2). A Learning management system (LMS)

I like thousands of other people use Leardash as their preferred LMS plugin.  It’s really easy to use, reasonably priced, and loved by my learners.  With this LMS comes a myriad of features like advanced quizzing, upload assignments for marking, easy to use course builder so that you can add videos, handouts etc in lessons with topics, lesson timers, grade books, course points as well as certifications and badges.  It has also got a host of other features from reporting to automatically enrolling and removing learners after a period time, check them out, you won’t be disappointed, I love it.  Over the past 10 years I have tired several, and for the past 2 years have settle for this LMS.

3) A Payment processor –

Unless you are giving away free courses you will need a payment processor.  With Learndash you can sell your courses easily, you simply set the price, choose the pricing model, and publish.  PayPal and Stripe are the two may payment process.  WordPress Shopping Cart Integration is easy and you can use WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, ExchangeWP or ThriceCart.  I use ThriveCart as my shopping cart.  There is a small plugin that enrols the learners onto the course that have signed up for, it also adds rules, like adding them to my email lists to send out on boarding emails automatically.  However, just to get you started you can just use Paypal for simplicity.

4). A Camera

To create video or software like Camtasia or Screenflow.  In order to record either yourself delivering a lecture, or whether you are delivering a Poerpoint  presentation, you are going to need either a camera, you could stat by using your phone’s or laptops camera. Camtasia and Screenflow record what is on your laptop’s of PC’s screen, for example it will record a Powerpoint that you deliver using your microphone from your phone or laptop to recored your voice.

5). Presentation Software

Powerpoint or Keynote to create a presentation or the Google Drive Presentation , It looks just like PowerPoint but is much easier to use. A presentation software is used to create your lesson’s presentation that you record and upload to your LMS

And that is it! Some people make it overly complicated, and yes you can add other bits and pieces, but honestly, that is all I use to create and sell my courses.   Plus, it’s all automated meaning that once you have set the system up, it all works on autopilot, this is one of the best methods of passive income and the main source of my income for 10 years now.
