This week I am talking to you about what to do when it all goes wrong with your blogging routine
Normally I have a few blog posts in hand, so if I need a holiday, or I am away on business or even if I am sick for a few days, it does not usually matter if I do not blog for a week or two as they have been set up to automatically go out.
I did not think about if I should get sick that takes me out for weeks on end….
I was away on my September holiday and had been feeling out of kilter for a week or so, and though I just needed my well earned holiday.
On day 3 I woke in the middle of the night shaking uncontrollably and with a very high fever. I got up and took some paracetamols and went back to bed. The next day, I felt really rough, aching all over, with a very sore throat, I just thought it was a very bad cold, so I carried on with my holiday.
However, a few days into my holiday, I began to feel really week and unable to breathe. I went back home, and went to the doctor’s to only to find out I had pneumonia.
Unable to breathe at all easily, coughing and feeling really weak, I accepted my fate and took myself to bed. It’s only now weeks later, do I feel ok to start any work again.
By now my blogging routine had gone out completely out of the window. Heck, where do I start now?
I must admit I felt really overwhelmed with it all, do I tell everyone what has happened? I really felt like knocking it on the head. Then I remembered something, I think it was from Flylady years ago, and she said some like this… ‘you are not behind, just jump in from where you are’.
This made much more sense, so I am writing this blog as my ‘jump in from where you are’ blog post. I will then do two or three blog posts, working backwards to fill the gaps until I am not only caught up, but I now aim to get at least three months of blogs ahead of time.
Luckily for me, I had already created the themes and blogs posts heading ahead of time, so this made it so much easier for me to get back on track with my blogging routine.
My key take away for you here is to create a spreadsheet mapping out all the 12 weeks post with themes and titles, this really did help me get back on track, and that you just need to ‘jump right in from where you are’ so, start with the week you are on, and then just play catchup doing 2 or 3 blogs going backwards. Then try and do 2 or 3 blogs a week so that you have at least 6 weeks in hand, if not more.
I am feeling so much better now, and to be honest, the time I have had off has helped me with my 1/4 review which I normally to do at the end of September!
Thant’s it for this week as I have a lot of catching up to do…
