You are listening to the Success Club Podcast. Hello and welcome to session 125. This week I am talking to you about why being accountable helps you succeed
Hello and welcome to the Success Club Podcast, my name is Kaz Johnson and I am your host today, this is episode 125 and this week I am talking to you about why being accountable helps you succeed.
First of all let me explain what an accountability group is. An accountability group—is where a group of people share their goals, report back on their progress and hold each other accountable. It is a fantastic way of getting things done.
Accountability groups are great to help keep you focused on your goals.
When you work for yourself, you are free to structure your day as you please. You have no one to hold you accountable, and so often, if you don’t feel like doing something, even though you know you should do it as it will help you achieve your goals, you just don’t get it done.
Working by yourself you can often feel isolated too, often lost in what to do next, so you don’t get it done.
You lose focus on the important next steps, even though you have a ton of ideas, you fail to see what the next important step is, so you don’t get anything done.
However, if you join an accountability group, you become accountable, you have told people what your goals are, then you have to report back the following week explaining to people whether or not you have achieved your goal for the week. Then all of a sudden, you get focused on the one thing that will move you forward, the rest of the group will have your back and call you on it if you procrastinate or suffer from new shiny object syndrome.
And if you get stuck, you have a group of people to call on who understands what you do, they will offer you suggestions or signpost you to the answer if they don’t know themselves. They are also fantastic to keeping you motivated when you feel like you want to give up or just don’t want to do it today, or tomorrow… they will empathise with you as they have felt like this too in the past and will help you to pick yourself up, and get going again, as we all need a little help from our friends. They will remind you of why you wanted to achieve your goal and just the fact. You are reporting back to them is all the motivation you need sometimes. Just being held accountable is just the thing you need to stay focused on and get the goal, and it’s great to share your successes with them, as they will do with you too!
They won’t allow you to use the excuses you keep telling yourself as they are now holding you accountable and let’s face it, we are not an island, we need to connect with other like-minded people to help us learn and grow.
The group will offer you an insight into you and your business that you might not have thought of before. This information is priceless.
However, an accountability group will not offer your mentorship, but people will signpost you to the relevant training. Nor is it a place to bitch and moan, but you can share your failures, albeit in a positive way, and if you learn from your failure, then share it will the group, they will support you and if you can help others from failing to hit your week’s goal, then that is an almighty positive.
By making sure that you have a goal in mind, this could be a big goal that is broken down into smaller weekly manageable goals, you are more likely to stay focused and on track. Just remember that you need to keep your goal a SMART one, specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound.
So if you want to grow your business and stay focused, join an accountability group. It docent have to the success club’s accountably group, just join one and get started.
That’s it for this week, so thank you for joining me this week.
